Sailing through Mallorca's east coast: a paradise of crystal-clear coves and caves to explore

Only a fortunate few get to experience Mallorca's coves by boat, a highly beneficial mode of transportation to enjoy the island in the summer. During this time of year, Mallorcan beaches are crowded with many tourists, sometimes making it challenging to find a peaceful spot to relax. However, many see the opportunity to explore the best places via the sea. Here, we'll describe some wonderful places to visit by boat in Mallorca!

cala-mallorca

Cala Antena is a pristine, white sandy beach located at one end of the Calas de Mallorca urbanization, about 10 km from Portocolom in Manacor. It's the perfect spot to sunbathe either from the boat or on the beach, nestled between medium-height cliffs. The cove was formed by the convergence of a stream that flows into the sea, creating an inlet of approximately 150 meters. Navigators will find a sandy bottom at about 4 meters deep at the mouth of the cove, roughly 150 meters from the shore. However, they should be aware that the depth decreases to about 2 meters when approaching the shoreline.

Another dreamlike landscape to explore by boat in Mallorca is Cala Virgili, which is situated near Cala Bota and Cala Pilota. Cala Virgili is a pebble cove with a sandy seabed, accessible after a hike through the private estate of Can Roig. Another option is to reach it by boat.

One of the most beautiful boat views in Mallorca's east coast is found at Es caló de Cabo Farrutx, where pine groves line the coast to the town of Betlem. The various shades of green in the forest contrast with the blue of the sea, creating a spectacular sight. In the area, it's essential to sail to Na Clara Beach, a favorite among the locals. The seabed in the area features vast meadows of Posidonia seagrass, sandy areas, and rocky zones.

Last but certainly not least, if you're looking for coves and beaches in Mallorca to explore by boat, we recommend Cueva des Coloms, located between the towns of Porto Cristo and Porto Colom. The east coast of Mallorca is popular because it's home to several caves that can be accessed on foot, such as the Cuevas del Drach in Artá, Cuevas dels Hams, or Cuevas de Campanet. However, Cueva des Coloms can only be reached by sea, and inside, all you can hear are the waves crashing against the walls, which conceal stalagmites, stalactites, and stone columns.

Cueva des Coloms features different pools inside where saltwater mixes with cold water. It hides a gallery that stretches for 250 meters, maintaining a small sandy area.
